Elvis fans are in for a treat too, with a remastered print of the seminal 1970 documentary ELVIS: THAT’S THE WAY IT IS. Our “Tough Sheilas” program unearths great Aussie films in partnership with the National Film & Sound Archives. Veteran director Donald Crombie will present CADDIE and THE KILLING OF ANGEL STREET, alongside a restored print of FRAN starring Noni Hazelhurst. Two new documentaries will have their Australian premieres at the Festival: HATS OFF – the fascinating portrait of a 93 year-old New York model and actress Mimi Weddell – and MS SENIOR SWEETHEART, a look at the strange and fascinating world of beauty pageants. The Festival will also be celebrating the best Australian short films starring actors over 60, at the COCHLEAR YOUNG AT HEART SHORT FILM AWARDS. The NSW Seniors Week Talent Award will be decided by a jury of industry professionals, recognizing exceptional acting from a person over the age of 60. The Audience Award will go to the Best Film, as voted for by the audience. A wildcard entry will be made by seniors in the week preceding the event, as part of the Young at Heart Filmmaking Workshop, during which a team of intrepid filmmakers will write, direct and edit a short film in only five days. Winners will be revealed at the screening. “Cochlear is very pleased to be the major sponsor of the Young at Heart Short Film Awards,” says Shaun Hand, General Manager Cochlear Australia and New Zealand. “It’s certainly a great fit, as the festival showcases the talent, creativity and fantastic achievements of senior Australians – something at Cochlear we see all the time.” “I’m constantly amazed by the many stories of seniors who say their lives have been turned around by a cochlear hearing solution. They may have struggled with hearing loss and ineffective hearing aids for years but despite the myth that cochlear implants are only suitable for children, people as old as 96 have benefited from this life-changing technology. "The Young at Heart Film Awards is an excellent way for senior Australians to ‘tell their stories’ and have a voice," says Shaun. Returning March 25 – 28 as a flagship event of NSW Seniors Week 2010, the popular Seniors Film Festival features 4 days of film premieres, restored classics, filmmaking workshops, and exclusive meet-the-artist events. Young at Heart takes place every year during NSW Seniors Week. The Festival is celebrating its 5th edition!! Taking place March 25th-28th 2010, the festival will include:
